Typical work days are either 6 or 10 hours during the main season, though some shifts vary.
The day starts at 8 am with a quick team meeting to set goals and prepare for the day ahead
Every shift includes a paid 15 minute break, where we provide coffee, tea, snacks and frozen treats to keep your energy up
Full day shifts have a paid 30 minute lunch break
After lunch, we review our progress and make a plan for the afternoon
All 10 hour shifts include an additional paid 15 min afternoon break
Work finishes promptly at the end of your shift and never expect our employees to stay late!

We strive to give ample opportunity for team members to give input on our systems, receive feedback on their work, and talk about skills/experiences they want more of.
Every Friday, we give team-wide shout outs and kudos recognizing the great work we've accomplished during the week
Once a month we hold an hour-long team meeting to check in, brainstorm ideas, provide training and feedback, and plan upcoming projects, though we encourage employees to check in with us individually whenever needed.
Full season employees receive a mid-season review where we discuss their accomplishments and set goals for continued growth. Full season employees receive a written end of season review recognizing their hard work and discussing growth opportunities and interests if they choose to return the next year

Crew Members
Crew members work together with a team to complete tasks on the farm. These core positions keep the farm moving and may specialize in different areas of the farm to build new skills and work experiences.
Leadership Positions
Supervise co-workers, delegate tasks, communicate goals and give/receive feedback
Monitor quality control and workplace safety
Manage time, pace and efficiency for projects and groups
Maintain organized documentation, records, supplies, work spaces
Lead Positions
These roles focus on the day-to-day operations, prep supplies and supervise co-workers within specific tasks, facilitate transitions and keep track of daily plans.
Leads make decisions related to production tasks at hand.
This is a team and task-focused position.
Coordinator Positions
These roles focus on a specific enterprise or division of the farm, supervise co-workers, and coordinate logistics to execute production goals within their enterprise.
Coordinators monitor production goals, forecast upcoming needs (labor, supplies, issues, etc), and proactively communicate with owners.
These positions make decisions within established plans and parameters and can be a stepping stone towards management.
This is an enterprise-focused position.
Manager Positions
Manager positions are reserved for returning team members, as these roles require an understanding of the whole farm picture.
Managers work with owners to set goals and priorities, make plans and develop strategies within an enterprise or division of the farm.
They train, supervise and provide guidance to their co-workers, use specialized skills, and evaluate colleagues, systems and efficiencies.
Managers make critical decisions to help the farm accomplish its goals.
This is a team and enterprise-focused position.

Scheduled Work Days
We expect our employees to adhere to their assigned work schedule(s) and report to work each day on time. Schedules are fixed and not changeable from week to week (with the exception of our sub and floater roles). We ask that whenever possible, that employees alert us by 6 am if they are unable to report to work on any given day when they are scheduled to work.
Make Up Days
If an employee misses a day of work and does not have enough accrued time off, or an employee requests personal time less than 2 weeks in advance, we ask that they make up that day by selecting another shift within the same work week. Our work weeks run from Sunday to Saturday. If the employee cannot make up the day within the same week, we will work together to schedule them on a weekend shift or an alternate shift in the next work week or within the same pay cycle.
Shift Trades
Alternatively, crew members can trade shifts or get shift covered from other employees who are on the same team as they are. When trading, both should ensure they do not exceed 40 hrs per week if working retail shifts.
Time Off
Honey Field Employees receive time-off on an accrual basis of 0.025 per hour worked. This is roughly 1 hour of personal time for every 40 hours worked.
Employees can request to use any time-off once it has been accrued. Requests for time off must be submitted at least two weeks in advance.
For employees in their first season, time-off is unpaid. After employees return for a second season, accrued time-off is paid at the regular rate up to 20 hours in year 2, 30 hours in year 3, and 40 hours in year 4.
Sick Time
Vermont state law provides earned sick time for all employees over the age of 18 who work at least 18 hours a week for 20 weeks. One hour of sick time is accrued for every 52 hours worked or 0.0192 per hour worked.
Employees can request to use any sick-time once it has been accrued. Sick time is paid at the regular rate.
Snow Days and Thunderstorms
At Honey Field, we value our employees safety above all else.
For snow days: When significant snow or ice is forecasted during our work days, we will alert employees of our intention to close for the full or partial day. This may include asking employees to come in later, or to leave early.
Whenever employees do not feel comfortable traveling to work in the snow, we actively encourage them not to do so and to communicate with us.
Snow days are unpaid, but do not count against employees’ time off.
Employees may choose to take on an additional shift to make up for missed time during a snow day, but are not required to do so.
For thunderstorms: If thunderstorms are forecasted during work days, we will alert employees to be digilent in watching out for thunder or lightning, and will plan for work that will maintain safety. During a thunderstorm and buffer periods afterward, employees cannot work outside or in any compromising situations (i.e. using running water or operating machinery). We will do our best to provide safe work undercover, but may ask employees to leave if bad weather prevents us from working.
If employees are asked to leave early due to thunderstorms, that time is unpaid.
Employees may choose to take on an additional shift to make up for missed time during a thunderstorm but are not required to do so.
2025 Federal Holidays
As a working farm and public retail business, Honey Field Farm does not observe federal holidays. We are open on each of the following holidays and expect our employees to report to work if they are scheduled to do so, unless they have requested time-off in advance. Shifts on federal holidays are paid at the regular rate.

Overtime
Under federal and Vermont state law, employees working in agricultural positions do not qualify for the overtime payment of time and one-half their regular rate for hours worked more than 40 hours per week.
This includes all of the employees in our Greenhouse Production Team and the VegetableProduction Team
Members of these teams who work more than 40 hours per week will be paid at their regular rate
Crew members in our Retail Team (Farmstand and Farmers’ Market) and our CSA Coordinator are covered by both federal and Vermont state law which requires that they be paid for all time in excess of 40 hours per week at a rate of time and one-half their regular rate.
At Honey Field, we do not allow these crew members to work more than 40 hours per week and expect them to communicate with owners if they are scheduled to work any overtime.
Weekend Days
From April - July, all Greenhouse Production Crew will work 2 weekend dates per month.
From April - October all Retail Crew will work 2 weekend days per month.
Days will be signed up for in advance.
Weekend dates can be in addition to weekday shifts, or may be swapped out for a scheduled week day shift within the same pay period for a total of no more than 40 hours per week. Any swaps will be coordinated with management and employees at the start of the season.

Greenhouse Production Crew

In early spring the greenhouse production crew assists in transplanting and seeding annual and perennial bedding plants and organic vegetable and herb starts. Through the end of July the production team helps to water, prune, and maintain the beautiful greenhouses filled with life.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Transplant flower and herb starts into packs, pots, and containers
Seed flowers, veggies and herbs
Plant maintenance, watering, pruning, and scouting for disease/pests
Clean production areas and maintain organization

The Soil Production Lead is a member of the Greenhouse Production Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all of the soil marking activities for the organic vegetable production and conventional flower production.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Engage in weekly soil making for seed starting mix, organic soil mix, annual flower mix, succulent/cactus mix and perennial flower mix
Coordinate with leaders to determine and anticipate soil production needs on a weekly basis
Supervise co-workers who are assigned to soil production duties
Organize and inventory all soil production inventory and potting inventory. Anticipate supply needs proactively so as to not interrupt greenhouse production
Oversee meticulous cleaning of soil mixing equipment in between organic and conventional soil mixing
Maintain detailed records of soil batch yields and cleaning logs
Deliver or store prepared soil to greenhouses while following best practices for planting media protection
Additional Qualifications:
Ability to lift 50 pounds, do physically demanding work and repetitive tasks while standing for 8 hours per day
Compensation:
Compensation is based on skill and experience level, generally $17/hr - $19/hr

The Seeding Coordinator is a member of the Greenhouse Production Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all of the farm’s seeding activities for annual starts, cut flowers, perennials, and organic vegetables and herbs in both greenhouses and the field.
Coordinator Responsibilities & Duties:
Execute growing plans developed by farm owners for Spring, Summer, and Fall seeding activities
Supervise co-workers who are assigned to greenhouse and field seeding duties
Maintain the farm’s Seed Library, ensuring that seeds are always labeled, organized, accessible and viable throughout the season
Maintain detailed records of seed deliveries and seed outages/shortages. Implement a record keeping system for crew to track daily seeding tasks and germination rates.
Organize and inventory all seeds and seed starting inventory including seed starting trays and domes, heat mats, media and misters. Anticipate supply needs proactively so as to not interrupt greenhouse production.
Forecast and communicate soil needs with leaders on a weekly basis
Forecast and communicate potting up plans for germinated seedlings with the leaders to ensure continued healthy plant growth
Coordinate watering of all seedlings to ensure successful germination and growth up until potting up
Keep veggie and herb greenhouses plant stock organized and fronted, create displays and maintain clear signage
Manager Responsibilities & Duties:

The Planting Coordinator is a member of the Greenhouse Production Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. In addition, this position is responsible for overseeing and coordinating all of the farm’s potting up activities for annual starts, cut flowers and organic vegetables and herbs.
Coordinator Responsibilities & Duties:
Execute growing plans developed by farm owners for Spring, Summer, and Fall planting activities
Train and guide Greenhouse Production Crew on potting up systems across the various production lines
Oversee other Greenhouse Production Crew who are assigned to potting up duties, including quality control and efficiency tracking.
Maintain detailed records of plug deliveries, tag deliveries, and tag printing needs. Implement a record keeping system for crew to track daily potting up tasks and yield rates
Organize and inventory all plugs and potting inventory including pots, hanging baskets, decorative planters, bench cards, and plant tags. Anticipate supply needs proactively so as to not interrupt greenhouse production.
Forecast and communicate soil needs with Soil Production Lead on a weekly basis
Coordinate potting up plans for germinated seedlings with the Seeding Coordinator to ensure continued healthy plant growth.
Identify and prioritize plant maintenance tasks for greenhouse plants and coordinate with farm owners
Keep annual retail greenhouse plant stock organized and fronted, create displays and maintain clear signage

The Perennial Coordinator is a member of the Greenhouse Production Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. In addition, this position is responsible for developing, overseeing and implementing all of the farm’s potting up activities and overwintering activities for perennials.
Coordinator Responsibilities & Duties:
Execute perennial growing plans for Spring, Summer, and Fall planting activities
Train and guide Greenhouse Production Crew on potting up systems for Perennials
Supervise team members assigned to Perennial duties
Maintain detailed records of plug deliveries, tag deliveries, and tag printing needs. Implement a record keeping system for crew to track daily potting up tasks and yield rates for Perennials.

Retail & Cut Flower Production Crew

Retail Crew
This team is the friendly face of our farm stand, providing helpful customer service, assisting in sales, restocking, and maintaining a clean, welcoming environment. The crew also assists in basic care for the greenhouse plants, harvesting of cut flowers, and assembly of cut flower bouquets.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Perform sales and manage farm stand cash register
Provide outstanding customer service and assist customers in finding products that meet their needs
Answer questions about annual, perennial, and vegetable growing and gardening
Restock farm stand with organic produce and local food products
Keep sales areas clean and organized, manage presentation of retail products
Other duties, including directing parking, carrying purchases to the car, plant care and maintenance, etc
Provide cut flower support, including planting, weeding, deadheading and harvesting flowers

The market retail team supports all aspects of market day, from loading the van at the farm, to set up, customer service, and break down. This role serves as the welcoming face to our busy market booth. This position can be combined with others to make a part- or full-time schedule.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Load van with produce, plants, flowers, etc.
Quickly set up colorful and eye-catching market displays
Perform sales and manage cash register at busy farmers market
Provide outstanding customer service, answer questions about vegetables and plants, assist customers in finding products that meet their needs
Restock product throughout market
Keep market booth sales areas clean and organized
Pack up at the end of market and unload at farm
Qualifications:
One year of customer service preferred
Interest in farming, gardening, or local food preferred

The Retail Team Sub is a member of the Retail Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. As a sub, this position is not on the regular weekly schedule, but signs up for a minimum of 2 shifts per month. This role will be on-call for the farm stand and farmers market shifts – responses within 24-hours to on-call shifts get a bonus for the shift picked up.
This position is reserved for past team members already retail trained
This sub position is a great way to stay plugged in to the team if you are no longer able to work more regularly scheduled shifts, and greatly supports our busy retail team when time off is needed

The Cut Flower Support Team is a member of the Retail Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. In addition, this position works under the supervision of the Cut Flower Coordinator to harvest plant materials and assemble retail bouquets.
Wash, sanitize, and prepare cut flower materials before and after harvest
Plant, trellis, weed, deadhead and provide additional maintenance for cut flowers
Harvest cut flowers and plant materials according to standards
Condition and store floral materials to enhance vase life
Assemble bouquets following the recipes developed by managers
Prepare wholesale flower bunches for distribution

This position is a member of the Farmers Market Retail Team and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above.The market coordinator/manager is responsible for preparing for and operating our busy booth at the Norwich Farmers Market April - December. This position involves marketing elements of creating eye catching signage, strategizing sales and displays, and designing inviting displays each week at market. This role undertakes market preparations each week prior to market, and then assists in coordinating the retail team to set up the booth, provide great customer service and break down the display each Saturday. This position can be combined with others to make a part- or full-time schedule.
Coordinator Responsibilities & Duties:
Prepare plants, hardgoods and supplies for market
Maintain market prep checklist to use weekly and train other employees how to update and interact with the list
Assist customers with checkout and inquiries about the farm/our products
Plan and design setup/layout of produce and other products
Set-up and breakdown market tent and display
Design and hand draw large chalkboard signs weekly advertising sales or upcoming farm events
Design and hand draw individual price tags weekly, develop system to digitize these beautiful designs
Communicate with field lead and wash/pack lead to be prepared for market
Manager Responsibilities & Duties:

Assist Valerie and Eli in creating written SOPs to streamline market processes, including weekly prep, market day tasks and roles, breakdown process, etc.
Train Farmers Market Assistants on how to use Square, give good customer service, and display produce

The Cut Flower Coordinator is a member of the Retail Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. In addition, this position coordinates planting, harvest, and maintenance of cut flowers for sale. This includes the cutting, conditioning, and storage of fresh flowers and plants as well as assembly of cut flower CSA, retail bouquets and wholesale floral bunches.
Coordinator Responsibilities & Duties:
Oversee production and pick-your-own-flower fields, from seed to harvest
Prepare cut flower beds for planting, supervise planting and direct seeding in the field
Oversee all cut flower maintenance and upkeep, including weeding, trellising, deadheading, etc.
Coordinate cut flower CSA logistics with leaders
Determine weekly harvest list for floral materials for wholesale, CSA and retail bouquets
Prepare wholesale availability of floral materials on a weekly basis using online market
Supervise co-workers harvesting, bouquet making, and bouquet maintenance systems
Understand floral standards and harvest techniques for each of Honey Field’s market streams. Communicate those differences to other crew members who are assigned to harvest duties.
Maintain detailed records of weekly harvests, bouquet assembly, and bouquet sales. Implement a record keeping system for retail crew to track daily flower sales at both the Farm Stand and Farmers’ Market.
Organize and inventory all cut flower supplies including clippers, buckets, preservative, jars/vases, and bouquet making supplies. Anticipate supply needs proactively so as to not interrupt production.
Develop bouquet recipes in alignment with consumer tastes at the Farmers’ Market and for CSA

This position gets to work with the farm’s most direct customers: our CSA family and visitors to the farm. This role works primarily from the farm stand to welcome and help visitors, create colorful displays and assist in ordering local products for the stand. The job also involves record keeping, communications, ordering and on-farm pickups for our farm’s unique CSA offerings - Free Choice, meal kit CSAs, and cut flower CSAs
Responsibilities & Duties:
Prepare and maintain farm stand displays and signage, stock fresh organic produce, local arts and gardening supplies
Assist in greenhouse displays, signage and customer flow
Provide customer service to farm visitors
Assist in responding to customer phone calls and emails
Assist in buying local produce and products to offer in the farm stand
Help us curate on-farm experiences with a focus on fun, experiential learning and free-play
Update and maintain google docs and spreadsheets regarding memberships, share schedules, etc.
Load Free Choice CSA cards and assist members with using their cards
Send weekly emails to CSA members, help to answer questions and assist members
Assist in purchasing local products to feature in meal kit shares
Type and print CSA recipes, help to set up for meal kit pick ups throughout the season
Qualifications:
3 years customer service experience required
Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
Detail-oriented, self-driven and able to follow through with a plan
Word processing skills, experience working with spreadsheets and point of sale systems preferred
Merchandising or retail experience preferred

Vegetable Field Production Crew

The field crew is a small, energetic team that supports every aspect of organic vegetable production, from seed to harvest to wash, pack, and delivery. We value work-life balance, clear communication, and a work environment that is safe, supportive, and welcoming. Qualifications:
Experience in farming, landscaping or other outdoor production work preferred
Able to lift 45 pounds, do physically demanding work and repetitive tasks while standing and kneeling for 8 hours per day
Willingness to work in greenhouses and outdoors in any weather

The Field Production Float is a member of the Vegetable Field Production Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. This position’s schedule varies week to week based on production and staffing needs. Schedules are provided 2 weeks in advance. We work with each float to identify potential conflicts and an ideal weekly schedule to recur, but there may be weeks due to staffing or production needs that the schedule may vary.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Perks of this position are that float team members are not held to the same scheduled time-off limitations in terms of making up missed shifts, meaning these team members may have additional unpaid time off beyond the amount accrued.
We understand that this position is temporary and requires team members’ flexibility, so we extend flexibility back.
This role is great for students and short-season employees, or folks who may need more time off than our core team policy allows.

The Wash Pack Lead is a member of the Vegetable Field Production Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. This position takes produce orders in from the field crew and helps get them out through multiple sales channels. This role works closely with farm owners to process orders, wash, pack and prepare for shipments. The job also involves helping to delegate wash/pack tasks, maintain food safety protocols, inventory tracking, and keeping a clean wash station.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Help oversee Wash/Pack operations for consistent quality & order accuracy
Work with team to pack produce at different quality grades for our diverse markets
Guide team members towards efficiency and help all achieve target production pace
Maintain food safety standards and ensure wash area is clean before and after each use
Maintain cooler inventory, temperature & sanitation logs
Weekly cooler tidy + sweep, sort produce to cull seconds, donations & compost
Coordinate with harvest leaders and provide quality control feedback for harvest crew
Print pick-lists and labels for CSAs, retail, and wholesale orders
Put together CSA and retail orders for farm stand pick-up
Put together wholesale orders - label, palletize and wrap as needed
Additional Qualifications:
Minimum 1 years experience growing or selling produce, strong understanding of industry standards for quality and packing

The Harvest Lead is a member of the Vegetable Field Production Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. In addition, this position oversees the daily harvest lists for the field, working with farm owners to determine crop readiness and guiding the field crew on harvesting techniques and quality control.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Oversee daily harvesting of vegetable and herb crops for sale and uphold food safety procedures. This includes picking, handling, yield, transportation and storage of crops from field to barn.
Understand produce standards and harvest techniques for each of Honey Field’s market streams. Communicate those differences to other crew members who are assigned to harvest duties
Supervise co-workers assigned to harvest duties by providing direction for harvest goals and feedback and maintaining quality control and efficiency in the field
Gather all materials needed for each harvest trip
Maintain detailed records of orders and associated harvests, making note of quality, quantity, and size of produce. Implement a record keeping system for crew to communicate yields on a daily basis.

The Equipment and Infrastructure Coordinator is a member of the Vegetable Field Production Crew and can expect to engage in all of the Responsibilities and Duties listed above. This position helps keep the farm moving behind the scenes and in the field. In the early season, this role helps to get greenhouse heat and water systems up and running. In spring, focus shifts to tractor work in the field, staying ahead of the planting team and the weeds and working with irrigation. This role works closely with farm owners to implement the field plan and achieve maintenance and repair goals around the farm. This role also works with the production team when needed.
Coordinator Responsibilities & Duties:
Focus on equipment work, infrastructure maintenance and repair
Mechanical field and bed prep, transplanting, direct seeding, cultivation, fertilizing, cover cropping and mowing, fencing
Work closely with farm owners to implement farm goals and field plan
Basic maintenance and care of equipment
Irrigation and plumbing work
Grounds maintenance
Load/unload trucks with tractor
Help maintain a clean and organized tool shop
Assist field/greenhouse team as needed

Work with Valerie and Eli to create infrastructure and field prep plans, continue to improve efficiencies and strategies
Additional Qualifications:
Basic carpentry and plumbing skills required
Manual transmission experience a plus
3 years experience driving tractor regularly highly preferred
Field and front end loader experience required
Enjoy troubleshooting and creative problem solving
